I buddy read this book with Khushi Kishore.
I went into this really knowing next to nothing about it. All I know was that it was based on Japanese folklore. Ultimately, I thought this was so cute. It deals with themes of sexism and transphobia, as well as some other dark themes. However, these were all handled very well. The MC is a young teen girl, and she ends up surrounding herself with the most incredible, whimsical friends that just made for a beautiful, touching story. I highly recommend for readers of ya and folklore.

Beautifully written and gorgeous world building.
The only thing I had a hard time with was the in-your-face feminist one liners~ loved the message, but I found it took you out of the book.

Women not fitting in with their times, folktales, and mystic adventures. It's interesting how the mystical world was interwoven and how powerful transformation with acceptance can change a person.
A really lovely fantasy read, a classic quest with gods and spirits and demons and it was engaging with a very sweet message about the strengths of being a human girl at the center
Wanted to read this because a review said it reminded them of Inuyasha. The story just didn't grip me.
