Wickedly funny and absolutely hilarious. I laughed out loud a LOT at this and it's such a fun read (I love Jonathan Coe!!!). I think the end let the rest of the book down a bit, imo, enough so I can't give it 5/5 but that doesn't mean that this novel wasn't an incredibly witty, biting satire. What a good choice to pick up from the library!

I think this book is probably a 3.5 in my eyes - because I would have preferred a few more of those loose ends tied up. All the same, this was an enjoyable read and got more enjoyable as it went on and more parts of the story were revealed.

This book was not at all what I expected. I laughed and I cried. If I could describe in one word it would be “gloomy”.
Graphic: Mental illness and Medical content
Moderate: Suicidal thoughts, Death, Dysphoria, Grief, Suicide, and Toxic relationship
Minor: Self harm, Homophobia, Murder, Violence, and Blood

Consigliato a tutti!

Ridiculously boring at the start and only got into it towards the last 50 pages.
Just wasn't very interested.
Ending was good I suppose. Good tie-ups.
Terry being in a permanent coma was kinda the best part of the book haha. Very nice thing to think of.

1881 people voted this on the list of 'Most Humourous Books'. Why?! Did they all fall asleep without finishing the novel? Am I taking it too seriously? Am I just oblivious to the underlying satire of some sort? I mean, the fetish sex bit isn't meant to be funny right? And the psychopath doctor? The depressing unrequited love and obsession?
