This is an all time favorite. It will break your heart and piece it back together over and over again. An ode to the power of community in the face of absolute tragedy, and a desperate call for an end to such tragedy. This is an immensely difficult read for anyone who grew up in a homophobic environment, but it is absolutely worth it.

Absolutely loved it. I was a fan of the movie, and I really appreciated getting to see Cameron’s inner life and how she experiences everything. Her sardonic attitude to most of the adults in her life is the perfect compliment to the bullshit she encounters at God’s Promise.
I won’t be specific, but I think the ending (which differed from the film) was gorgeous, and has stuck with me (I imagine it probably will for years).

I couldn’t handle when it was determined Cam must be sent to a conversion camp that she paid for
because being gay was considered religiously wrong.

Omg this is one of my favourite books. I relate to Cameron so much it hurts.
