In some ways, unfortunately, this is still relevant in present day. Women still have a hard time being believed (by both family and the medical profession) when it comes to their physical and mental health. Even in our own time, some men still behave as if their girlfriend/spouse just needs a little rest and then she can get back to taking care of the house/children. Progress always seems to be so damn slow. I loved the exploration of gender roles and mental health in the short story. It's use of the wall-paper and the slow descent into madness is wonderful. Still very much recommended for everyone to read.

I can see why this short story is so well regarded. The imagery painted by the words were so strange and eerie (A yellow smell? Despite the weird choice, I think I understood what she meant). It actually felt like I was in the room, staring at the wallpaper myself.
The real horror here though is the fact that a woman had been locked up by her husband in a room for "her own good" and is treated like a dumb human being who can't make choices for herself. It's infuriating, and because of that, the ending felt cathartic. The parallels between the woman and the creeping women she sees in the wallpaper were also incredible and I wish I had half the brain to be able to come up with something like that.

I loved The Yellow wallpaper. Such a well written description of a woman falling into post partum phycosis and not getting the help. I liked how all 3 stories feature the strength of females, and the dangers of misogyny amd the male gaze.
