It's a classic for a reason.

This is one of the best short stories I've ever read. I love it because it continues to be pertinent even today...which is also why it is so sad. You'd think women would be less oppressed now, but more than a century post publication, women can still relate.
fast-paced

I enjoyed the comparison between the main character and the woman in the wall paper. Enjoyable early feminist read. SUPER short.

a relatively easy (but upsetting) read, i think I'll be depressed for the rest of the day thinking about all the women who were blindly labeled as hysteric when they were suffering mentally

super interesting!! glad i finally read it. my library copy was a feminist press publication from 1973 with an afterword that was super interesting. the afterword mentions how perkins gilman’s scholarship and critiques still were relevant 50 years later. i can confirm that again they are relevant another 50 years later! crazy to be reading this copy shout out elain r hedges
