This is one of the most disturbing, beautifully written books I've ever read. The prose is profound and profane and evocative in all its weirdness, the characters are complex and deeply appalling (which makes them all the more likable), and the narrative mosaic of times and formats and styles creates a patchwork quilt that keeps the dread and tension simmering the whole way through. It's a brilliantly perverse meditation on change and adolescence and desire, and I Will be thinking about it for ages to come. Definitely read the content warnings on this one.

It took me a minute to get into this book, but once I did, I couldn’t get out of it. The language of this book is as much a part of it as the story. The way the characters are each narrated is incredibly unique to anything’s I’ve ever read, and one could argue the poetic nature of the narrative voice as well. A highly metaphorical book about adolescence and the relationship between mothers and daughters, this book is a very heady read and incredibly weird, but absolutely worth it.

I struggled a lot with the writing style at points. just like Our Share of Night, it would regularly go on multi-page stretches with no paragraph breaks, leading me to wonder if perhaps this is a perfectly normal literary convention in south america or at least for writers of literary horror there .... but this was really good once I got into it. I especially loved the chapter which was annelise's essay about fear/white horror/cosmic horror..that was really interesting. and I was really intrigued by what was going on with the girls at their meetings in the building and I also really liked the epistolary format. the ending felt so gaping wide open which I wasn't as much of a fan of but ah well.

I appreciated how the author depicted each character’s unique distress at the erosion of their own sense of identity as an autonomous person. I took a point and change off the star rating because I feel like the story kind of trailed off at the end. Fans of Fight Club would probably enjoy this book.

This book is very atmospheric and literary.  It explores the emotional substrate of how people process fear and terror.  There aren't any supernatural elements, so it read as psychological thriller to me.  Similar to Apt Pupil, but more cosmic.  It skates on the blade edge of innocence.
