I was first introduced to Sherlock Holmes through the excellent Disney Classic, The Great Mouse Detective. I have watched many of the recent film and tv iterations of Holmes, but it was so fun to finally read some of the original works.
I love that the stories are bite sized, and never above 40 pages or so, so that I don’t have to lose sleep wondering what will happen, which is a reason I often avoid many mysteries and thrillers. I love how clever these are, and once the puzzle is solved how it all makes sense. They can be spooky without being gory. The language and writing is beautiful. I can see myself coming back to these and enjoying them again in the future. My kind of mystery!

I'm putting this on hold for now. Listening to the audio version just isn't cutting it. Stephen Fry is fantastic, but I can't stay focused enough to get the whole story, and these aren't the kinds of stories where you can afford to lose focus.

Stephen Fry does a masterful job narrating, but that was a lot of Holmes and Watson to listen to.

This is quite excellent, although this audiobook version is missing "The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes." The 72 hour version of the audiobook is not available in the USA as of right now - I am guessing because in the US some of the stories in that book are still under copyright and we will have to wait until 2022 for them to be completely under public domain. Mental note to check back to see if it's available in the US at that time.
Stephen Fry's delivery is just phenomenal - I found myself laughing at parts of the humor that I hadn't really laughed at in the text, and staying in my car to listen to "just a few more minutes." I thoroughly recommend this.
