"It must feel safe."
Juliette glanced at him properly. "Safe?"
"Don't you think?" Roma shrugged. "There must be a certain comfort here. Cities can fall and countries can go to war, but this" - he raised his arms, gesturing at the rivers and the stone paths and the delicate ceiling tiles that decorated what were onces temples- "this is forever."

What a ride. What a story!
It almost took me three months too finish it (mostly because I was so scared to come to the end of this incredible story!)

Chloe Gong is such an amazing and talented author, she manages to create such a thrilling story filled with tension, rivalry, anger, sadness, secrets, monsters, humor, sarcasm and, of course, love! I thought I would have hated her by the end of the book (as if), but I can only love her more. Her words are so beautiful and, of course, made me so damn emotional.

Even if I feel kinda empty right now, I also feel so hopeful for all the characters and I think this is the best thing of all <3

If you liked book one, book two is an amazing pairing that brings the chaos and tragedy of the R&J story. While opening up an interesting world for what is to come afterwards. I would definitely suggest picking it up, if that’s the case for you. However, I am on the other side where I was anticipating Book 1 forever and felt bored and disappointed throughout it. While Book 2 gives some character development and explains some of the GAPING context holes, for me, it still wasn’t a WIN. I’m glad I gave the second book a chance, but the blood feud remains nonsensical, Roma & Juliette continue putting each other above everyone else EXCEPT the people that they DO NOT KNOW who they feel the need to protect for no reason but the city is “theirs” and they feel responsible… For a mess they did not create. The length/pacing of this was too drawn out for me. And it made all the parts that could have made this a 4/5 star read for me feel lost in all the other plot lines, characters, etc. I’m tired. I never want to dive into this world again.

What a fantastic damn conclusion to this duology. I couldn't put it down once I started it. So much tension and growth, all while staying true to the source and history. And now I can't wait for her next book.
