Skipped through a lot of the philosophy and drama. I really didn't care.

Xanthe heads back and ends up in the place of someone who knows about her time travel and names her a "spinner." She's challenged by a man who wants to use her powers to control - the world? - and he takes Samuel. Who's engaged to someone else.

Secrets of the Chocolate House

This is the second book in the Found Things series by Paula Brackston. Xanthe discovers an antic copper chocolate pot that sings to her. Xanthe has a secret, she can travel in time with the help of objects that sing to her. In the first book, she travelled to the 17th century and met Samuel. It broke her heart to leave him and returned to her time, but her sickly mother needs her and she had to choose between him and her. The chocolate pot brings her back to the 17th century to save Samuel from a great danger. She still has feelings for Samuel and it will not be easy to meet him again but she must if she is to help him.

In the second book, Xanthe will discover more about her gift and her destiny. She will also encounter a man with similar abilities to her who will become a dangerous adversary.

I am enjoying this series so much. The writing is beautiful and the characters so interesting. If you are looking for something different, this series is for you. Start with The Little Shop of Found Things and then read Secrets of the Chocolate House. The end left it open for a third book.

I have to admit that this series is not my usual reading material but the covers of books one and two drew me in. Plus there's the premise of inanimate objects 'singing' to the main character. What's not to love about that?

I ended up loving book one—Xanthe and her mother are such endearing characters—and had to follow up with book two for sure. And then there's the time travel aspect to the books. I'm a sucker for time travel.

Xanthe runs into some evil goings on, and some nasty people, during her travels to the past and learns so much more about her abilities. She is definitely bringing more to the table as she learns about herself and I love how her character is developing. I can't wait to read more of her adventures.

Book three is out there waiting for me with book four coming out in November! Yay!

This was a great second book in the series and I didn’t realize there was going to be a third book! I really enjoyed watching Xanthe come into her own as a Spinner and try to balance her present life with her life in the past. I’m excited to read the third book and see a conclusion to Xanthe’s conflict with Fairfax.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun listen, the story was engaging, the conclusion was… not so conclusive. But I am looking forward to the next in the series.

I started out excited to read this sequel, but was sorely disappointed.

The romance part of the story was infuriating and stupid. Why make us root for a love story that wouldn’t happen? Also, her aversion to lying to her mother is stupid. Flora freaking out on Xanthe for not telling her that Marcus was around was stupid. They act like a married couple rather than a grown ass woman and their mother. Their relationship is weird and unrealistic. And I don’t understand why Xanthe even entertained Marcus and actually met up with him the first time. Everything in this sequel sucked. I started to really dislike the MC and hearing her complain about lying. I won’t be reading the third in this series.

I really liked this book. Brackston keeps the book realistic in terms of family and friends - if one was actually capable of time travel. Some people didn't like the way she went back to her mom every so often, but I feel that I would for mine, so Xanthe was relatable for me.

I love learning about history through this story and found much of it interesting. I would never have known about chocolate house gatherings otherwise!

Starting the next book in the series now!
