Ugggghhhh....sooo disappointed.
This is such a far fall from grace. The first trilogy was PHENOMENAL! I couldn’t wait to continue Darrow’s story, and that’s one of my main contentions. It’s not Darrow’s story any more. So many POV from characters I care nothing for while Darrow is cast as a side character in his own revolution.
Second, the first trilogy evoked such a deep emotional response. When Ragnar dies I’m a mess, no matter how many times I’ve reread it. In Dark Age the characters are never developed enough to care whether they live or die. But soooo many do die and it just feels like Pierce is mining for shock value instead of creating a truly great story. Every chapter is death, destruction and betrayal. It’s numbing. By the time you’ve finished you don’t give a shit about any character, you’re just glad to be done.
I’m holding out hope that Book six will make up for this mess and make me love this series again. Hail Reaper....

Yet another wonderfully written and performed piece of the puzzle! I was on the edge of my seat for most of this, unexpected twists and grisly murders! I laughed, I cried, I gasped with shock... this story has it all.

The political sections slow the story down, but it’s usually followed by page turning events
