I think if the movie wasn't quite so good, I might have liked this one better. I enjoyed some of the added scenes. Others didn't fit so well. Some of the changed lines and character reactions bothered me. And certain scenes lost a lot of what made them so enjoyable in the movie.
Overall, it was decent - definitely better than some other books of this kind - but it really doesn't compare to the movie.

Danielle has lost her parents. Her mother died when she was born and her father died when she was 8. Just before her father died Danielle was introduced to her new step mother and two step sisters. Danielle had always hoped that she could have a mother and she is very excited at first. But very soon she notices that her new step mother is not what she has wished for.

When Danielle's father dies her step mother starts to threat her like a servant. They start to call her Cinderella. Year after year Danielle serves her step mother and her step sisters without complain. One day she hears when someone is trying to stole her father's horse. Danielle gets really angry and throws apples towards this thief. A couple of moments later Danielle notices, that this so called thief is the prince of France, Henry. Henry is amazingly handsome and Danielle falls in love with him. At the same time Henry falls in love with Danielle.

Later on, when they meet again, Danielle pretends that she is a aristocrat and she developes a fake name. Henry's father is trying to marry Henry to a princess of Spain, but later on he says, that Henry has 5 days to choose who he wants to marry. Danielle is the only person he can think of. But of course, Henry does not know the truth about Danielle. The sitution is hard and the fact that Danielle's step mother tries to get her daughter to marry Henry does not help at all. Especially when Danielle's step mother gets a clue that Danielle is this woman Henry is in love with things get really tricky. With help of her friends and Leonardo Da Vinci, who is working for the king at the palace, Danielle gets Henry and they start their life together.

I really liked this book. It was fast to read and even though it was the story of cinderella everyone knows it has this little twist on it. I am really looking forward to seeing the movie.
