A lighthearted read, good for a slump. Nothing super impactful or something I would revisit, but it was cute.

There are times where the main character responds to events in a way that makes you wonder if she's a bit daft, but nothing overly frustrating.

This was a bookworm / travel bug's dream book. It explores that whole idea of starting life anew somewhere else; taking a big risk and starting over. Mix in descriptions of the Scottish countryside, book references galore and a love story that you'll want to root for. Can't go wrong!

Lovely book. Nina is a librarian whose job is cut (library closed down) because in her city people want computers and social media and not books. Nina follows her dream and discovers she likes the slower paced country of Scotland rather than the English city she is from. She finds community. It is a love story. It is about how books affect people and how much more so than technology. Nina is a book matchmaker.

Favorite parts/quotes:
"Nina sat back down and started reading aloud from "Up on the Rooftops", and the twins quieted down immediately--not because they could follow the story , but because the soothing cadence of somebody reading always had a transformative effect on babies; Griffin's theory was that children were evolutionarily engineered to listen to stories, because it stopped them from wandering off into the woods and getting eaten by hairy mammoths."

"It had become a matter of professional pride now to find something that would suit Lesley. She just seemed to be a woman absolutely in need of the right book. There was, Nina was fervently convinced, out there for everyone. If only that went for everything in life."

"The kids have almost stopped playing Minecraft! Of course they just want to read books about minecraft. But that's still a miracle as far as I am concerned."

"I don't even know when I stopped reading," an elderly man confessed.

"I think I just stopped seeing books around," the man went on. "You know, on the bus, everyone used to read books. But then they were fiddling with their phones or those big phones, I don't know what their called." "They were probably reading from their tablets," said Nina loyally. She loved her e-reader, too. "Yes, I know," said the man. "But I couldn't see. I couldn't see what they were reading or ask them if it was good, or make a mental note to look for it later. It was as if suddenly, one day, all the books simply disappeared."

New words I learned:
truculent-eager or quick to argue or fight; agressively defiant
intransigent-unwilling or refusing to change one's views or to agree about something

Lovely, cozy, bookish read about a bookshop. Reminder of how important finding the right place and people is.
