A really good story, with plenty of twists and turns. Glad to see Burke take this to the Cape where I read so many MHC books back in the day. My only quibble was the breadth of characters who were ultimately used as red herrings. There were plenty of needed characters (both families, their spouses) that we didn't really need more. With Laurie "on location" for much of it, I found myself missing her family, especially Leo.

SpoilerNoo.... don't kill this with a romance and a baby, even though I know the romance was present from the start with Alex. There's so much good in the stories, we don't need that distraction.

I started this before boarding a plans and finished in just over 24 hours (silly job getting in the way of my reading), if that says anything about how compelling it was. Intriguing premise, great movement of the story, and a cozy conclusion.

This was a decent, quick mystery but I figured out the plot about 2/3 of the way through so the ending was not as riveting as I hoped.

0.5?? Atleast it was a quick read

3.5 rounded up. This was the first book in the Under Suspicion series that I have read. I didn't realize this was a series and this book can definitely be read as a standalone. The author does a good job at providing some back story so you don't feel lost. There is some back story about the characters I would like to know so I may read the earlier books in this series.

Ten years ago twin brothers were accused of killing their parents but were never charged. Did one of them do it? Have they not spoken in ten years because one believes the other did it? When their sister contacts a true crime producer to look into the cold case their entire lives are under the microscope. I did enjoy the true crime aspect of the story and thought that it was like solving a crime yourself as they looked into all the details from their view versus the view of the police.

I felt there were some pacing issues with the book. I was sucked in right away but it slowed down in the middle. I found a lot of it to be repetitive. The ending was also very fast. I felt like there were some red herrings thrown in that were never even explained. I found myself at the end thinking well what happened with this person or what was this little bit about.

Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for an ARC of It Had to be You by Mary Higgins Clark: Alafair Burke for an honest review.

Ten years ago Richard and Sarah Harrington were murdered in their Cape Cod summer home. It was the night their twin sons, Simon and Ethan, were celebrating their college graduations. By all appearances it was the perfect family. The police quickly decided that the brothers conspired to kill their parents. An eye witness claimed to see one of them away from the party around the time the killings were happening. Both brothers insist that they never left the party all night. The Murder case went cold, but the brothers became estranged. They each insist that they weren't involved so it must have been the other one.

Now, the youngest child, daughter Frankie, wants to finally know what happened that night. She was only 12 when the tragedy tore her family apart. The brother's wives also want to know. They each have young families of their own and soon their children will be old enough to learn that their fathers are suspected murderers, at least in public opinion. The Deadly Duo.

Laurie Moran, investigative journalist and producer of a true crime show is under pressure to find an interesting case to feature or her show's format will have to be changed, in order to keep up with the more sensationalized competitors. Under Suspension always takes on cold cases where new I formation can be dug up and the unconvinced suspect can either be exonerated once and for all or finally brought to justice.

I really loved the characters and though I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, I was able to fully connect with the story. It does read well as a stand alone, though I will be going back to read the rest of this series.

Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for the opportunity to enjoy this e-ARC.
