Tris has all but given up on a chance for advancement in her company so imagine her surprise when she’s one of two chosen for the company’s big leadership retreat in paradise. The only problem is she stuck with her nemesis and nepo hire Rafe. As if that’s not bad enough, a mix up leads them stuck in a room together for the entire multi week trip. Now they have no choice but to find a way to get along or risk their positions in the company. The more time they spend together the more she finds out she knew nothing about Rafe and the harder it becomes to remind herself why she doesn’t get involved with coworkers.
As a woman in STEM who is also living that chronic migraine life, I was very excited to pick this one up. Tris’ struggles both personally and professionally were easily relatable and I think Nisha did a fantastic job portraying the migraine life without making it her entire personality. Most of us take our meds and do what we have to in order to make it through another day of pain. I felt it in my soul when he said that he didn’t like her having to take all that medicine and she said well it’s that or be unable to function.
The gorgeous tropical setting will make this the perfect summer read! I would only caution those who don’t enjoy OW drama that there is a fair amount even though the OW has very little page time. But if that doesn’t bother you and you’re looking for an easy to binge slow burn rivals to lovers workplace romance with a very satisfying HEA then I would recommend picking this one up, especially if you’re an audiobook lover like me.

Thank you to Hachette Audio and NetGalley for the ALC!
Not Safe for Work is a fun and steamy read, perfect for wishing you also were on a company paid retreat to Hawaii. Our characters are well rounded and feel like they could be real people, flaws and all. I was worried that there would be a big issue with miscommunication and jumping to conclusions as our plot unfolded, but I was pleasantly surprised by the way things went. We had relatable issues with an MMC with actual emotional intelligence and an FMC who uses her words even when she is assuming the worst. It feels like the bar is on the floor for avoiding cliche and terrible miscommunication in the last 20% of most romance books but Not Safe for Work really excels with keeping the reader immersed and the plot engaging.

"Little by little each of these insults chipped pieces of me away."
"You have to let the past go and let someone in."
"But you can't overcome obstacles if you don't acknowledge the door standing in your way."
Big thanks to Forever Grand Publishing for the E-ARC! This was such a good read, I thoroughly enjoyed this a lot, and I really love Tris's pov as well. This story had hilarious and funny moments, and I loved Tris's humor and way of story telling and inner monologues. However, the author was able to woven important themes, such as misogyny in the workplace, sexism, racism, micro aggressions, and more. The experiences that Tris went through were not only relatable but extremely believable and mind blowing as well. I loved that Tris stayed true to herself and even at her whits end with how things were going, she still chose herself and her happiness. I really enjoyed the connection / slow burn between Rafe and Tris, they had so many funny moments and banter but I loved that at the core of their connection they both looked out for one another in small subtle ways. Overall this was an enjoyable read that I enjoyed so much!

I thought this would be an easy fun beach read given the title but it was kinda long and drawn out, the characters got annoying and it's pretty safe for work
