Perhaps the weakest book I read this summer. I’m giving it one star because it made me feel nothing. I can’t even say I hated it- if I did I might be able to bring it up one or two for evocative writing style.
I know that’s harsh but what I’m really trying to say is that I wish I enjoyed this book. The beginning had me real excited and then it just kept me in the same mood for the entire book with no shifts in style, story, mood, etc. I read this in two sittings because I needed to find out the end and see if it would redeem itself but that proved to be incredibly weak as well. So much potential was wasted here.
Im not mad, just disappointed :(

This book had the potential to be so good. But it literally DRAGGED. Run on sentences for days that I’d have to reread multiple times because by the time I got to the end of the sentence, I couldn’t even remember the beginning. Ugh it sucks because the synopsis sounded so good! I read about 60% and had to stop. I just could not read it anymore. Maybe I’ll try to pick it up again eventually.

Did not see the point of this book at all. Maybe had a deeper meaning but I did not catch it.

This is a book for those who like the philosophical journeys of the narrators of Milan Kundera’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being and Anna Segher’s Transit.

I loved this story- maybe it was I was in Rome (and it takes me back with the beautiful descriptions) and graduated during the 2008 recession but I felt connected to this book that I have not felt in a while.
Depressing and slow, yes. But beautiful and relatable. Who doesn't have a little mystery in their life that they would love to drop everything to explore further.
Maybe a story of privilege but really- lots of stories are. I look forward to reading more from this author.

This book had a good plot, but it was far less interesting than i had hoped. It's written very factually so it feels like i'm reading a textbook at times. I also felt like i barely knew the main character for a long time, i don't think her name is even given anywhere in the book. Her name is stated in the summary but i believe that's it, so i didn't feel much of a connection with her.
I also understand the message the author was trying to portray at the end but it left me feeling a little unsatisfied.
