This book!

When I first read this as a pre-teen to now as an adult, I have treasured this book. It has the comedy, action, mystery, and bromance that I totally adore. Loving the author helps too. Artemis Fowl fans, check this out please!

Of course there are some things I would say could be an issue, such as the portrayal of the Young Students.

It got old quickly. Don't get me wrong, young crime doesn't have to irritate me, I loved Filmore and wish there were more episodes, and I love Eoin Colfer and Artemis Fowl. But this kid? This kid was just irritating. Instead of the young detective thing being "funny" it was just majorly irritating. Constantly being reminded and all those little jokes and way of speaking made it really hard to read because I just couldn't get into it. The story was weird, I'll give it that, but more cringe worthy and less interesting than what I look for, and Red just wasn't enough to of a bad guy (odd I suppose since he does beat up Half Moon) to do the whole turning over a new leaf thing seriously.

So a little of a let down, but who knows, maybe I'm just not big into detective origin stories.

I love the Artemis Fowl series so I thought I'd give this audiobook by the same author a try. It's basically a detective story for kids and definitely felt written for a younger audience. Parts of it seemed perhaps a bit over-the-top and melodramatic, but that was its charm! It made me laugh out loud many times at all the detective references (and I loved the Irish accent of the narrator).
