Two short stories by Wells, neither really Science Fiction but both with a dream-like quality to them. I preferred "The Door in The Wall", and didn't fully understand the second one. I once read "The Invisible Man" ages ago, but I'm curious now to read more by him.

What an absolute masterpiece of fantastic writing. Its something you cannot put down. A slip under the microscope, what a fantastic piece of writing. "Memories are not dead things, but alive; they dwindle in disuse, but they harden and develop in all sorts of queer ways if they are being continually fretted." What a charming way to put something we all experience daily. Memories, those things we constantly tinker with, which do harden when we go over and over the many things we do in our life. This is about life, about us, about you. It's about what we all go through our regrets. Mr Hill, a character after everyone's heart, a poor boy who worked himself up and joined the ranks of Cambridge, stuck against the likes of the Wetherbes of this world.
Mr Hill, you honest man. It's quite sure Wetherbes cheated again, but the rich cheat and lie and the poor don't cheat and own up. That's why ones one and the others the other.

Interesting little read that piqued my interest with it's scientific themes but hasn't really stayed in my mind. Good but definitely not his best.

The writing was superb. HG Wells is obviously, as deemed by many-a scholars, a master at it. However, this book marks the true reason why I usually don’t read short stories. They never conclude fully. It’s ok to leave the ending a bit open. It allows your reader to have complete fulfillment of their own desires for the characters. Stories this short, however, always leave me a bit unsatisfied.

Ganske god. “The green door” giver meget til overvejelse om lykke og arbejde, og “a slip under the microscope” handler blot om en misundelig akademiker, som jeg synes er meget relaterbart og sjovt at læse om.
