This was wonderful and magical and adorable. I love all of the characters. I love the twists and turns. There are a few twists that felt quite Shakespearean! The full cast audio was wonderful as well.
My review here: https://beingfictional.wordpress.com/2018/11/04/bakers-magic/
Listened to this one on audio, which was really good. It's a full-cast recording, so it really came alive on audio. This is a middle reader book about a young girl who discovers that she imbues magic into her baking. At its heart, it's a story about community and love for one another. There was a Dutch vibe about the story, which I enjoyed. I thought it was fun that the author included recipes from the story at the end. Would be fun to read with children and then make one of the recipes.
I read this via audiobook and it might be one of my favorite audiobooks I’ve read! The various actors were great at distinguishing who was speaking and made the characters come alive. The story was full of magic, baked goods, a princess, and pirates - definitely a fun read with adventure and fantasy. I’m saving this one for when my girls are a little older to listen (maybe when they’re 8 or 9)- they will absolutely love it!
In a place where there is magic but no trees, a young orphan girl learns she can cook her feelings into food. The characters are fun and there is imagination to spare in the world building. There was; however, no real feeling of danger or suspense which left the story feeling somewhat flat.
I love the combination of baking, pirates, and corrupt governmental overthrow. Highly recommend for all ages!
