I was not sure 100% how this read would go. Reviews were promising but This is the second book I have read by this author and the first was a DNF although I did end up giving that one 2 stars Escaping Fate because ultimately the writing is not bad I just got bored.
This book was shorter and fluffier overall. I had some small qualms but ultimately thought this was a sweet read. But dear lord the title and cover 🤣🤦♀️

Naw. I wanted to like this. The premise is fun, and I wanted a series to get wrapped up in. But the tone of this was very buttoned up, starchy, dry in some ways and then informal in others. And then the whole aspect of the history of slavery and her not really getting how much it still affected the society, even tho “only two of those who had actually suffered under slavery still lived today.” That sentiment is so tone deaf and just compounds the whole icky feeling I got from the way the colonized/colonizer dynamic is described. No thanks

I was recommended the Prime Mating Agency series as cute monster romances with low-stakes vibes. I loved the focus on communication being a pillar for relationships and the inclusion of faux-pas’ and differences between their cultures.
It was a super quick and easy read and I’ll likely pick up the rest of the series.
