it was enjoyable! kinda sad they never had a first “i love you” moment but still good nonetheless!
DNF at 35%. I was giving it until the first sex scene, but even that fell flat for me.
The parts where the two main characters are getting to know each other and learning from each other are really sweet. They take a lot of care with each other and I was really hoping for some Strange Love (Ann Aguirre) energy. But alas, no.
The heroine comes from a supposedly matriarchal society (at least when it comes to property inheritance) and yet it is exceedingly misogynistic. A woman can be ruined by sleeping with the wrong man. There is a heavy focus on "virginity" and lack of sexual experience is preferred and prioritized....in women.
Also, the whole part about her going to this "primitve" planet and saving the local species by teaching them farming just reeks of colonialism.
And lastly, you create an entire world (lizard people!); It could be anything. And yet, you create a world in which there are only two genders and they correspond exactly to two sexes.
Maybe it gets better. Maybe Olix has some queer friends. But I don't think that's where this is going. I think this is probably going in the white woman saves the "primitive" people and teaches them shit colonial bullshit direction.

Adored this book! Gives me serious Ruby Dixon vibes and equal amounts of serotonin. Our MCs have some conflict to overcome and rise to the challenge splendidly. Loved that the FMC is strong and independent while still being caring and thoughtful for other's customs. Can't wait for the next one.
