Appreciated the sketches at the end of the book bc I was really struggling with picturing some of the characters in my mind. Surprisingly sweet story.

I was in the mood for something faster paced and action packed, so some of my dissatisfaction with this book is on me. Instead, this is a rather thoughtful look at the toxic effects of capitalism and colonialism on indigenous cultures. Despite siding soundly with the local people over the corporate outsiders, though, the book had a weirdly white savior-ish vibe to it, with the human newcomer single-handle solving all of her new tribe’s problems and showing them the error of their ways. I’m not really sure what to think of this book, so a perfectly neutral 3 ⭐️ it is.
