Renato and Charlotte

Not sure how to feel about this one. It had ups and downs but it took me a few chapters to get into it. It’s not a bad story at all I just felt some of his actions were a little too OTT. Just my opinion and won’t turn me off of reading this author in the future. Give it a go.

I started with Malevolent King as I saw that Renato's sister was referred to in this book and that she was already married. I got through about 30% of the book and just got irritated with Sophia. I'm so glad I didn't give up on this author then and tried this book instead.

I really enjoyed reading about Renato and Charlie. She is strong and a fighter, looking after herself and her younger sister after both their parents died when they were teenagers. She is putting herself through nursing school while working 2 jobs and trying to keep her sister, Lucy, on the straight and narrow. A difficult task as it seems Lucy is determined to find trouble. This leads them to Renato, the head of the Italian mafia and a deliciously bad man.
Renato is controlling and possessive and definitely used to getting what he wants and having things done his way. That is until he meets Charlie.

They are so great together and yes there are scenes where it was pushing the controlling boundaries for me but Mila Kane was good at not going too far. This book is sexy and spicy with a lot of push and pull between the main characters. I also enjoyed the side characters except for Lucy. I know she is young and naive and has gone through a lot but wow I did not love her. There were many times I just wanted to give her the boot.

Another great positive about this book, it's a complete story with no cliffhanger. What a refreshing change from many of the books released lately.

This book was a very decent read, however, one character in particular, (the FMC’s sister) took it from a 5⭐️to a 2.75 verrrry quickly, simply by being too stupid to live.

The MMC had some very sweet moments in which he displayed both tenderness, and a sense of emotional maturity and understanding that isn’t common in many mafia books. I liked Renato immensely.

Charlotte was an FMC who was difficult to sympathize with, in that she’s an enabler who masquerades as a martyr. Her younger sister Lucy is a 19 year old entitled, spoiled brat who thwarts Charlie at every turn, and who is constantly creating situations in which she has to be rescued, or reasoned with. This same sad scenario is on repeat throughout the entire book.
This book is essentially about Lucy’s bad behavior and poor judgment, and as a result of one of these such mishaps, the main characters meet and subsequently marry.

Overall, I don’t regret reading this book, as it was definitely entertaining.
I only wish that the awful side character hadn’t overshadowed the romance of the leads.

Reeeeally great, Mafia read.
There are quite a few mafia books out there, some that might even follow a similar flow, but this one hit really nicely for me where others have fallen flat. This story was engaging and left me wondering what would happen next, Charlie was the perfect type of heroine, independent with a quiet sort of strength, she wasnt your standard "badass" but more like she had grit and determination that she had gathered from her own trauma and the responsibility of looking after her sister.
Renato was, of course
