Very good Hellboy story. Really gave HB a new dimension with Anastasia. Golden has a very good writing style and has some stellar descriptions throughout the story. As for the plot, it was fairly simple evil sorcerer stuff but still enjoyable and leaving you wonder where it's going from there.

After reading tons of Hellboy's comic, this is the first Hellboy's novel I've read. For me it's a basic Hellboy story, full of action and unexplainable mystery. Compared to some of the more sombre and brooding works of Mignola, The Lost Army are simple. It has an interesting background with potential characters, but I feel there's a lack of evocation in the writing itself. The characters, mysteries, and wonders, all came and go quickly without leaving much impact to myself as a reader. On one hand, it's easy to digest and quick to read.
