I wanted to like this but I could not connect with it. There were a lot of facts but the human stories behind those facts didn't have much depth. I did like Mawer's writing style and it had so much potential to be something I'd love. I may try to pick it up at another time.

A book that gives a voice and a face to someone who was a name on paper or in the family history.
The author did an excellent job in developing these characters and this ia mix of historical fiction and history.
Highly recommended.
