Could have been written without all the bible/religious bullcrap. It had some good advice and ideas on how to treat your spouse and even rekindle romance. But it doesn’t take “finding jesus” to find true intimacy or to develop a dynamic marriage. If you can’t be good/kind to others without the threat of eternal suffering, you’re not good person.

As far marriage books go, I much preferred The Five Love Languages. This one is good, however, and gives daily challenges to show love to one's mate. It has some very good ideas and the message of making the choice to love the person we are married to is one that is much needed in our society.

A very good idea. Loved the book and all of the challenges. Really helped me learn a lot about myself and my relationship.
However, I'm not Christian, so I could have done without the Bible verses.

This book is not for everyone. It is a 40 day challenge that requires you to do something every day. Most of the daily commitments are meant to take you out of your comfort zone, too. Like: not saying anything negative for an entire day, letting your significant other win a long-held argument, and asking your significant other to say three things about you that upset or irritate them.

This is a (very) Christian study. Every page is full of scripture and bible references. A couple days ask you to focus on praying for your significant other or committing yourself to Jesus. It's written in a way that would be applicable for either a man or a woman or a couple. I found it very helpful to do this study in a group where we could encourage each other daily. My one complaint is that I found it to be repetitive. A good chunk of the daily challenges amounted to doing something nonspecific and "unexpected" for your significant other.

My roommate gave this to me back in college. The movie Fireproof has this book in the movie, or they wrote the book based on the movie or something. It's a 40 day dare for husbands or wives to reconnect and build a healthy and strong relationship.

The book kind of assumes the marriage is on the rocks if someone is reading this. Many of the dares we already do (pray daily, read scriptures together, etc). It's definitely a non-denominational Christian book. There are scriptures listed in every chapter. It's also a journal to write how the dare went and thoughts about it.

Didn't write in the journal portions (going to pass the book along to its next reader), but I did all the dares. Many of them were little obvious things to do to make marriage better (and some I automatically do to make Brian feel more loved), so it wasn't as much a benefit for me to read, but for someone else desperate to save their marriage, it might. Some of the dares I really liked, such as asking about things I've done to make him uncomfortable or irritated with me. Many of them are things I'm already consistently doing or think about often.

Pretty good book. I can see how it would improve a lot of marriages. It's mostly common sense things that I think everyone should know already. It's putting it into practice where most people fail. I didn't read much further than day 5, to be honest, although I have thumbed through most of the book. I got the gist of it within a few days.

If you haven't seen the movie Fireproof, do it and then get this book if you want to cement your relationship with your spouse. I will admit that the movie can be a bit hokey in parts and some of the actors aren't really actors and it looks like they are trying to hard...but the message of the movie remains the same.

This is a book that can be ongoing and not have a final date that it is read by even though it is a 40 day book
