A very exciting entry in the series. We learn more about Lily's background and Sebastian's talents.

Great story! Lydia does a superb job of keeping you wondering what will happen next as she weaves her tale. You feel as if you are friends with each character and could hang out with them or perhaps you very much dislike them and would be willing to help Lily wage war against them. If you like magic, wizards, witches, and talking cats, you will love this book. Highly recommend!

These are fun, well-written (albeit nothing deep) little novels.

Somewhat mixed thoughts on this one...
I was really pissed about it until about 2/3 of the way through -- Lily was incredibly dense and incredibly rude to Sebastian. And Sebastian kept following her around with a hangdog expression. That was painful. When you are writing a continuing series, you should not get the reader seriously annoyed at the main character.
And then Lily charged off with a man she KNEW to be a dangerous wizard. And without telling Sebastian or her mentor or even her talking cat. I mean, really??? She is supposed to be a serious and intelligent and cautious wizard. This level of stupid impulsiveness is directly contrary to her supposed personality.
And, speaking of the cat, if there is a talking cat in a book like this, the talking cat will be the most sensible character in the book. This book series is absolutely no different.
The last third of the book has some serious action. Lily is imprisoned, chained, tortured... damn. Quite intense. And, yeah, even in the middle of all of that, Lily kept making excuses for the guy torturing her. That was also like WTF painful. Honey, he does not have good goals but different methods -- he is a monster. Cope. Especially since he is clearly going to have return appearances.
The book ends, indeed, with a LOT of revelations about Lily's life. And some of the structure for books to come is taking shape. And (mercifully) it appears Lily is getting her head unstuck when it comes to Sebastian and loyalty. Although whether she catches a clue about some people just being really evil remains to be seen. Sebastian says at the end "But you are a *good* person". OK, but that can be taken way too far.

the first installment was such a ridiculous, lighthearted read that this second installment kinda has me shocked; it took a few violent turns I was not expecting, as well as added a historical surprise (hello Morgan, fancy seeing you here) that definitely has me intrigued... i feel like I have to continue now, solely to find out what the hell kind of power Lily is actually capable of.
