I’m having a tough time deciding my thoughts on this one. While I was reading it there were times I felt like it could be a 5 star read, but then other times where it felt a bit clunky and closer to 3 stars.

The reason I picked this one up originally was because of the anxiety rep, which you don’t see that often. I think the author did a good job of delivering a story coming from an anxious mind. If you live with anxiety I think one common theme - even if your individual symptoms and triggers are different - is that your mind creates an unreliable narrative about your world. I think the author has done a fantastic job in weaving this aspect into the narrative.

My main critique was that the writing style I found clunky at times. It read a little on the younger side of YA, feeling more middle grade. But the themes and plot where definitely not middle grade! So I found myself not being able to immerse myself in the story at times because of this disparity in the way it was written.

Overall though, 5 ⭐️ for the anxiety rep.

I had a better review but goodreads ate it :(:(:(

But it boils down to this - what did I just read? Can I trust anything? Am I even me??

Brilliantly done book that will seriously mess with your mind.

WHAT DID I JUST READ?? I need to go back and read it again... and again. I want everyone I know to read this book just so I can ask them what on Earth they think happened! An impressive book, I must say. The middle dropped a little for me and felt like a bunch of “filler scenes” but then the twists started happening and I want to go back over the middle looking for clues! But having said that... the whole book is a lie.

If you want a book that will seriously mess with your head and make you doubt everything whilst also making you think about it constantly after you’ve finished, read this book.

How do you review a fever dream? Or - to be more specific - a book that embodies a whole bowling alley of curveballs?
Went into this expecting a normal murder mystery (?) About a boy with anxiety. Then it went off the rails. And any of the criticisms i was planning ended up being justified by the end.
I'm confused. I dont know what i believe. I finished this in one sitting. My brain itches and im off to try and decipher the coded phrases in each of the 3 main parts and then go to bed.

More 3.5 stars than 4, but it was good and enjoyable, lots of twists and turns. I didn’t find them as shocking as some other reviewers did but I found them clever nonetheless. I marked this down because I didn’t like the lazy descriptions of non-white characters.
