Read [b:Spider-Man/Deadpool Vol. 1|28118845|Spider-Man/Deadpool, Vol. 1 Isn't it Bromantic|Joe Kelly|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1471286711s/28118845.jpg|50774679] because I wanted to try to read [a:Scott Aukerman|14137891|Scott Aukerman|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]’s issue after hearing him discuss it on a recent podcast, Screw It We’re Just Gonna Talk About Spider-Man. Unfortunately, my Hoopla app only had this first volume available to borrow, collecting issue #s 1-5 & 8 & Aukerman wrote issue #6. Still figured it would be a fun read since I’m enjoying the early issues of Amazing Spider-Man and enjoy the Deadpool movie & one book of his I’ve read.

This first volume, Isn’t It Bromantic, has Deadpool trying to be a better mercenary by giving up killing (mostly), telling the truth (sort of), and befriending Spider-Man (in an attempt to kill his latest target, Peter Parker). There are some fun pieces of dialogue between the two (lots of accusations of theft between such similar characters) but I was surprised there was so little breaking of the fourth-wall. I’m used to Deadpool knowing he’s in a comic, so when Peter had an internal thought bubble wondering if Wade realized he was Spider-Man, I was surprised Wade wasn’t able to read those thoughts.

The actual plot is a little hard to follow—I’m not sure if die hard comic fans would recognize the person who hires Deadpool to kill Peter Parker—but there’s enough action to mostly make up for it. Plus, it’s fun watching Deadpool and Spidey hang out—especially when they go on a double date with Lady Thor and a Succubus who both end up fighting each other before humiliating the guys.

Here’s hoping [b:Spider-Man/Deadpool Vol 2|32856147|Spider-Man/Deadpool, Vol. 2 Side Pieces|Scott Aukerman|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1494952671s/32856147.jpg|53459009] comes out to borrow soon, else I may just break down and spend the $4.50 for the ebook.

honestly i’m no expert on comics, nor the quality of them but if you love these two characters then you will thoroughly enjoy this. I mean, the art is one thing but the interactions are super enjoyable and overall very light-hearted. i’m glad they went a little deeper into wade’s psyche instead of always writing him off as a ‘ha-ha funny merc who doesn’t feel anything’. i also loved the inclusion of ellie <33 hes such a good dad

I'm not really sure what to make out of this. I loved reading about Spider-Man and Deadpool and their dynamic which certainly was bromantic. But otherwise I found the story really confusing and I don't know what really happened. It felt like it was jumping from scene to scene just to show us the dynamic between them and not really any actual plot. I found it confusing and questioned whether the scenes were just glimpses of some of their adventures or it was really told chronologically, scene by scene, for an actual plot. But the ending made me interested and I still want to read the second book very much.

Some may think writing spider-man and deadpool is easy, but being that funny is hard! Joe Kelly plays them off each other fantastically and Ed McGuinness pencilling is detailed and adds to the hilarious imagery!

And the inker is called “mark morales” iconic!

They had fun with this one and so did I :)
