A super-quick re-read as my daughter picked it up at the library and I wondered how it had dated. It's survived surprisingly well (probably the mention of Playboy is the only thing that really nails it as a book written in the Seventies), and the concerns of Margaret and her friends are just as relevant now. What really surprised me was the emphasis on Margaret's religious feeling - I remember the book from my own teens as being about bras and periods, but Blume really got to grips with much bigger issues which almost certainly had a lot of influence on me without my realising it. Good for her, and I'm pleased this is in my daughter's to-read pile.

Reading as a 50+ year old woman is much different than as a teenager. Coming of age story about Margaret that touches on all the important things that are occurring when you are twelve - getting your period, boy crushes, being mean to other girls. It also touches on the perceived important of religion and how this can strain family relations. Short book but there is alot to learn from this story. Recommend as a reread or read if you didn't when you were young.
