Rereading a childhood favorite, in preparation of watching it on Netflix, leaves me wondering if my tween self fully understood Judy Blume’s narrative fiction take on Human Growth and Development. Probably not, because I was still playing Barbie between reading Judy Blume books. Or probably, because my fear of “the talk” while at school (or anywhere, actually) was a very real part of my daily anxiety at that time in my life. And so was my questionable stance on organized religion. Even as a liberal and fully inclusive teacher, I don’t think I’d let my fifth grade girls read this unless we did so together, as part of a book club, so we could discuss all perspectives and I could help ensure they maintained full perspective to draw their own conclusions.

Read it for school. I’m writing an essay about how American ya literature has changed since the 1970’s

It was a good book. The way the author put it in the point of view of Margaret was good. I just feel like I am a bit old for this book and I knew that before reading it, I just found it so was like why not read it.

A cute book, I recently watched the film and it was lovely revisiting the story.

obviously im not the target audience, but if you put yourself in the shoes of a girl who's learning about periods & bras for the first time, this isn't too bad lol

Currently in a tween/teen girl binge mood with books and movies, so I had to read this classic for the first time! I was shocked when the audiobook ended and I heard “text copyright 1970”! I could relate to Margaret so much (in retrospect) even though I was that age in 2014

i don't think i can describe the level of indifference i have towards this. looking back every single judy blume book i've read i've thought "it's a book." i picked this one up bc i was 13 and there were no books about girls getting their periods. i honestly have no opinion on literally anything she writes about.
