I don't know how I missed this when it was age appropriate. I've always had a fondness for Judy Blume, ever since Forever. She feels like an old friend. There are some classic lines, like when Margaret's mother says God is a nice idea.

I'm 35 and just read this book for the first time. Honestly, it stands up pretty well. So much of it was relatable and made me laugh, thinking back to my friends and I as 6th graders. Picked this up as part of a book crawl, and I'm glad I did.

This is clearly a classic coming of age story for a reason! I had never read it and am glad that I did.

Here we go, at 27 I finally read my first Judy Blume book. It was quite the experience reading this as a woman who has been dealing with her period for 15 years now. I was surprised by how excited these girls were over getting it which was something I had never experienced and I laughed when they said it doesn't hurt. Overall, this book was so packed with horomones I feel overwhelmed. However, this book was honest and deeper than I was expecting. It stayed very true to the experience of puberty as a female and I wish I had read this book back then.

This book is definitely for 10-14 year old girls. While I think it touches on a lot of interesting topics that are very prevalent for preteens, Margaret often comes off as kind of mean and judgmental. In a lot of ways I think that is the self centered nature that comes with being around that age but as I read more of this book it became more and more grating. 2⭐️
