This was a very impressive debut novel. Tracey Lange crafts a story with a complex family dynamic, interesting twists, and snappy pacing. I enjoyed this, but I think it was ultimately a forgettable story that I'm not likely to be recommending to people soon.

It was... fine? The group really liked it, so I highly recommend for a book club. I just found it kind of... long, at times; and I really don't like books where no one communicates with each other and high school relationships are soulmates who need to be reunited, and wounded women need protecting and women who get pregnant or have complex motivations are villains or thoughtless instead of human. Just... not my thing (but I'm in the minority).

picked it up because i am the sole girl of three brothers in an irish catholic family (and so is my mother!) and i thought that was a cute coincidence :) but was disappointed especially in the second half of the book because it just felt so lame and predictable… like don’t get me wrong i love character-based soap opera-y stories they’re like my bread and butter but that means the characters have to actually.. be good…. like idk all the connections felt very surface level and even though individual relationships had some depth, on the whole the characters felt shallow and the interconnected web of a messy family was extremely thin
