I read this book in 3 days compared to 2 weeks for the previous one. First, I like the writing, the author knows how to evoke emotions. And the way The Mothers starts a chapter as narrator is very well done. To have this perspective and what they think about the situation.

I expected a better plot or mistery about the death of her mother but we are given less. Too much misteries about the protagonist situation at the end is frustrating. I don't like having too much interrogations at the end of a book. Also sometimes it is repetitive and we keep turning around. Not much development for the character but I really love Nadia, by the way.

It's a really good debut and I could recommend for subjects taking part in the story.

Type of read: Commuter read.

What made me pick it up: A suggested read based on previous library loans.

Overall rating: "Finding peace in the unraveling."

Poetic and lyrical, 'The Mothers' is a beautifully heartbreaking story of finding yourself amid the decisions and choices you make...for better or worse. This book hurt my heart in the most wonderful way. I loved the multiple perspectives and weaving storyline. The honesty and hurt that comes out of these pages is gutwrenching. I would absolutely recommend 'The Mothers' and I'll be on the lookout for any future works of Bennett.

Readers Note: 'The Mothers' features storylines that include suicide, sex, sexual assault, and abortion.

I really enjoyed this book! There was always something going on, so my curiosity was peaked the entire time while reading. I felt the ending was a bit rushed... within the last couple of chapters of the book, something major happened, and I felt like the way it was wrapped up was rushed. I wish we could have found out whether Luke and Aubrey stayed together and what happened to Nadia.

Overall though, I did enjoy the book! It was beautifully written. Would recommend :)

Women are always held to the highest of standards starting when they are just little girls. Boys though, never. Not when they kiss a girl or put their hand under a girl’s shirt without permission or when the girl gets pregnant. Then these girls/women are judged by both men and women. Beautifully written to show our hypocritical nature and how healing is so important.
