I don’t have any other words to describe how I feel about this book other than ‘uncomfortable’. The plot, the setting, the people, the relationships… unsettling.

As always a delicious treat from a favourite author of mine. I'd been looking forward to reading this for some time and the delayed gratification was worthwhile. Just the idea we can move between two places without knowing it until we see a small difference and detail is a good one, but to add in an extra moon, a cult, a killer and a writer in such a well connected way makes it extra special. I like this book much more than 'Kafka on the Shore' and as always with Murakami, the surreal moments and ideas feel natural and believable.

Really would have enjoyed this book had it been 30% shorter. Also, the writing didn't seem as lovely as in other works by Murakami. I'd put this next to Kafka on the Shore and on the opposite side of the shelf from Wind-up Bird Chronicles.
