i was debating between 2-3 stars because i was extremely disappointed with the last book in the series. i should’ve just stopped at fifth book honestly.
(2.5)
It's a shame that this had such an explosive action-packed finale typical of a space opera (but not of Dune), that came just after all my interest was pretty much lost! I may be being harsh on this but it continued down some of the elements I didn't like from the last, with less of the same flashes of brilliance (mostly because the characters I liked more were featured less) and some nasty moments showing some oddly anachronistic bigotry underneath!
I hate that I had to end on a dud for Dune after how much I loved 3 of the first 4 books.
Also, have to say, whilst these last two definitely felt like they had weaker prose, the dedication to Frank's wife Bev at the end of this was just such gorgeously sad writing, and genuinely choked me up a bit.

Sci-Fi author masturbates over his own philosophical views and tries to pass it off as story.
At least it wasn't as bad as Heretics.
