I honestly did not expect to like this book much, given that Nesta is pretty much the worst and I hated her in the other books.  Every time I thought she was possibly redeemable, she went out of her way to prove me wrong.  So I went into this book with more of a sense of duty to continue the series I have loved, even though I knew the focus would be on a character I’ve loathed. I did not expect to like it.

Imagine my surprise at the conclusion when I found myself most impressed by this book out of the entire series.  It’s not my favorite in the series by far (that’s reserved for Mist & Fury), but WOW, was I impressed with the skill involved in this one.

This story is, at its heart, a portrait of grief, self-loathing, a toxic mentality, depression, self-destruction, self-discovery and ultimately healing.  It’s a loooong, agonizing, frustrating, infuriating, slog through to one of the most rewarding character arcs I’ve ever read.

Be aware the spice in this one reads differently than in previous books.  This is intentionally crafted as a part of Nesta’s journey is in learning the difference between actual intimacy and using sex as a tool to disconnect and self-harm, but it is clearly different.

There were so many things I did love about this story -
the sentient house (need this in my life!), Gwyn and Emerie and the badass Valkerie training.  I didn’t love that Cassian was fairly useless at either reading Nesta or assisting her in her mental health journey in any other way than the bedroom (or dining room).
I’m not sure I’d re-read this book in the series, but it was great in its own right.

More of a 4.5 than a true 5 star read, but I’ll round up. I loved watching Nesta grow!!! Her character development felt authentic and real to me, as did the depiction of trauma and mental health. Cassian was just the cherry on top. Kudos to SJM for this one.

Never in a million years did I think I would fall in love with Nesta but here we are! She might be one of the most complicated anti heroes ever, written so cleverly that one minute you hate her, the next you are rooting for her. The book really does take you on her journey to self acceptance and healing. I loved pretty much all of the new characters who all equally had their own challenges to overcome. I could honestly read another 5 books of Nesta and Cassian’s relationship being developed! In terms of the Rhys/Feyre side plot, it was a bit too convenient at the end and I feel the author could have handled it a bit better. The main villain was a miss for me but I loved the character development that much that I didn’t mind. Skip if you’re not a lover of spice as there’s a LOT. But overall my favourite book in the series so far!

This maybe could've been a 5⭐ read if it weren't for
Feyre's pregnancy being almost solely a plot device

A fun romp and a bit sexier than others in the series. It was great to experience the world through other characters' perspectives, though I would have loved it not to have been largely because of
fayre's pregnancy. A woman being pregnant does not mean that she is less of a character or mean that her world stops.

Anyway a fun extension of the series
