Finally got a library copy of this book! It seems like I’ve been waiting since May! With the book itself I found the first half really slow. When things started to pick up it was more enjoyable to read. Though I wish their wasn’t so many main characters, it was hard to wrap my head around it because there was said to be around 40-50 kids on the ship but we only ever hear the names of at least 7-9 of them at most. The ending was unexpected to be honest but it was also a good ending.

Choosing to believe that was an open ending for my own peace of mind (I’m delusional). I LOVED the way Leigh was written here, her anxiety and her struggles towards making her own decisions. The ending was perfect, in my opinion. I don’t think any other ending would have matched the point of the book. I sort of went into this thinking it was going to be a little juvenile, and it was, because the characters are young, but it never felt like a problem and had no impact on my enjoyment overall.

Picked this book up and set I down several times. Mixed feelings, but I would give it a try. As it’s described, definite Lord of the Flies energy. I found the pace to be slower than I would’ve liked, especially I realized the book’s voyage wasn’t going to be as long as expected.

This gives off Lord of the Flies and Yellowjacket vibes (minus the cult).
Group of kids lost in space. Don't know if they should continue to the new world or go back and try to save who they can on earth. There are traitors, factions, and even murder. But can you really blame these kids for feeling the way they do? They weren't ready for something this huge.. neither was the ship apparently. Just goes to show that not everything is as it seems, and not all decisions are easily made. Sometimes you have to do what feels right for the masses, not just for yourself. The bigger question is: when it comes down to it, what would you be willing to sacrifice for those you love?

" alone out here " was the first dystopian science fiction book I have read in a long time. I read the book in one day, although I had to put it aside again and again for a short while in order not to freak out completely. There are many points that I particularly liked about the book. These include the complex relationships between the different characters and the flaws of each one. Also, dealing with the mistakes of the parents and the totally different developments of the characters. The book totally captivated me and took me into another world.
