609 pages in two days, I think this demonstrates (once again) how much Riley’s books capture me! I cannot repeat often enough, that her mixture of historical expertise, romance, tragedy and ingenuity always manages to immerse one in another life; one cries, laughs and has to put the book aside for a short moment in anger, just as if you would experience the narrative yourself.
It almost pains me to pull a star off the fourth volume of the sisters series. I sometimes had the feeling that there were too many coincidences and connections between the main characters. Perhaps, this is due to the author’s strong reference to the ancestral customs of the Aboriginal Australiens, but this made the storylines seem very implausible (knowing that all Riley’s books are always decorated with a lot of luck and chance). Nevertheless, it was interesting to get to know the ambivalent character of Cece, who finally managed to feel comfortable in her life. And more important, who learned to own her life and be proud of it!
