I already have a pandemic and a Joe, now I just need a cherry farm with a house by a lake in Michigan along with three daughters and a dog to live this protagonist’s cosy charming life. Hopefully Meryl Streep will also narrate my life for me.

Comparison is the thief of joy in life and books but I couldn’t help wishing this had a bit more of the drama Commonwealth so expertly delivered. Sebastian was a wonderful character though :)

This was unfortunately a DNF for me. I wanted to finish it because it’s my library’s book club pick for this month, but it was so boring and such a slog. I know it’s beloved and maybe the problem is me. It’s just not my chosen genre and not my kind of characters. I can understand why it may be an addictive read for an older audience, and I can see why the library chose it: if you like reading about looking back on life and the lessons you learn, this will be for you.
