I loved the father-son narrative, but I am not very fond of post-apocalyptic stories. The writer did a remarkable job tho; he was eloquent, the narrative was well calculated and the transition into the ending was handled masterfully.

Sad yes but amazingly written. Captivating. It's true what bookforum wrote, "Once opened, nearly impossible to put down; it is as if you must keep reading to keep the characters alive ..."

While at first glance, The Road seems like a tale of survival in a post apocalyptic world, the real story lies in the bond between father and son and their struggle to not only survive the world around them, but the growing chasm between them.
The writing of the father and boy, by Cormac McCarthy, makes the emotions felt between them tangible and similar to the reader's own life experiences. I highly recommend this to anyone as a summer reading book as it's a quick read but powerful nonetheless.
