emotional lighthearted relaxing slow-paced

A fantasy slice of life about an ex Army medic who becomes a butler for an older gentleman wizard. The author had previous military experience and it comes out in the main character without making that the only character trait. A comforting read that kept me enthralled without being bored.

The audio was amazing!

Delightful

A cozy read with wonderful characters and light adversity with a happy finale. There is room for growth in sequels, but it is completely able to stand alone as a well-written read. This was a refreshing break from the horror and thriller kick I had been on recently.

This is a peacefully paced book. And for some reason I wasn't bored, nor was I stressed, and I genuinely enjoyed it.

What is this sorcery?

I don't know how to describe it, but Roger relaxing into his duties as butler to a spunky old man who turns out to be a genuine wizard with both ordinary rich man problems and rather less ordinary problems, is just...methodical, measured, reassuring, an oddly comforting.

This is a first book for me by Nathan Lowell and I was a little perplexed. 3.5 stars

No real drama, just an easy story of every day life in a man who has found his "home" and calling as a butler. It wasn't bad, in fact I usually like reading about the everyday motions, but usually it is building towards something climactic or romantic.

To me, the most exciting thing about this book was the fantasy of buying whatever car I wanted. And having pixies and fairies to care for my home and yard. Yes, the pixies for sure.

I kept waiting for something, like a romance to bloom, but it was just a gentle easy happy ending.
