Absolutely loved this story and the narrator of this book! Yes, I listened to the audiobook version. The characters were alive and in the same room with the amount of personality they each got from the narration. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.
The story was wonderful! Beautifully written from the perspective of someone on the sidelines of the magical world who previously didn’t know the world existed. Practical and believable and honest. The main two characters were amazing and felt very real. Well done to the author and narrator for giving them such life.

Felt like I was reading a list of chores. It tries to come off as cozy, but I've read instruction manuals with more heart than this story. It should also be a crime for a marketed as fantasy novel to have the word "wizard" in the title and have basically no magic besides quick mentions of people having vague "talents" and doors opening by themselves. The only character trait the main guy has is bringing up that he was "an EMT and military before that" like we didn't remember the first ten times he said it. The narrator was really solid though.

This book didn't feel like it was going anywhere the majority of the time I read it. We were introduced to characters who gave no unique contribution to the story and then disappeared. Things that should have been a paragraph or two (because the plot point was never brought up again) had several pages devoted to them.
