4.04 AVERAGE

Ehhh, basically nothing happened... the end.

I actually liked the slow pace of this book and the fact that there wasn’t a ton of action. It was a great book to listen to while walking. What kind of pissed me off is that I think this book was probably written 20 years ago (or more) and just grabbed out of the archives and slightly updated for publication today. No one is interested in how internet access is achieved in a house today. Nobody is confused about how the internet works. No one needs to explain that they use their phone for GPS. Absolutely NO ONE needs to have the idea of email explained to them. I get the idea that this stuff would need to be explained to an 80 year old shut in but the author takes inordinate amount of time/words explaining this all to his audience. I liked the rest of the story but this just bugged me.

I loved the start of this book--enjoyed the characters, the premise, the setting, the writing. Unfortunately, nothing really happened? And the main character isn't really the main character? I think this would have worked better as a short story or a vignette.

tremendously fun

Interesting characters, and a different take on magical stuff. I hope there’s a book 2 coming! Four more words required. So there.

Great group of characters and fun read

I really hope to see more of the characters and stories about them. I don't think I took a break at all when reading it, like I generally do with other book. Like a game or two of solitaire.

lighthearted slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character

Overall really enjoyed the book and the main character... but the story pacing is odd with incredibly slow bits as the author spends too much time on things like installing wifi in the house. SO MUCH WIFI TALK.

Unfortunately I found it underwhelming. No mystery, no action, no humor. Details about: setting up wifi, market research, zoning ordinances, and legal procedures did not interest me. I suppose if you want a peaceful fiction about how a veteran finds his perfect, non-lethal job, then this is an excellent book.

4.75 stars. Once you get past the setup, this turns into a surprisingly absorbing gem of a slice-of-life story. Not flashy or overtly fantastical, but this one goes on my list of recommendations. Could be a good gateway book to introduce others to more fantastical fantasy as well.

what an interesting butler!

fun read. while Roger Mulligan is indeed the butler of a wizard, the magical aspects of the story are subtle. looking forward to more

3.5 rounded up. The narration was very well done, the story line was interesting, but it seemed to get bogged down in some repetitive actions that didn’t move the story forward. It was a nice diversion from my usual fantasy books that are more steamy.
