Dean is asked out on a date by Lara, a beautiful girl from his high school. But Lara has plans for Dean and it is definitely NOT what he is expecting...

Holy shit. This is one short story that packs a wallop. I can't say more without spoiling it, but suffice it to say I am impressed. What a nasty little tale. And that ending...whoa.

My face while finishing reading this story:

The date, is the debut piece of fiction from Mort Stone. Published through D&T emerge and available on godless.

I really liked this short from the author. Knowing the type of books that Mort likes to read from his reviews, he’s now shown me he can write them as well. This is a date gone horribly wrong, it’s violent, and bloody and not exactly what you expect.

Fans of bloody, violent horror will want to check this one out for sure.

OMG, I cannot believe that this is a debut, it is such a great little story. I picked it up as I'm a fan of Mort's wonderful reviews.

There is a great tension in the early part of the book, which keeps ramping up and up. Until the nasty stuff starts and when you think you know where it's going it flips everything before ending with a masterful twist. There's plenty of gore for you to enjoy as well.

I cannot wait to read more by Mort Stone

Great debut!

Maybe I'm into a bloody kind of horror and do not know it?

Dean is getting ready for a date with his dream girl Lara. He is a huge ball of nerves which is making all kinds of crazy thoughts run through his head. He’s heard horror stories about Lara’s dad and how she’s not allowed to date. Yet here he is, standing on her porch, waiting to meet the family. Once he talks himself into knocking on the door, everything changes.

The Date had me on the edge of my seat, especially when the scene in the basement started. This book is gripping, gory, and has a twist I wasn’t expecting. In fact, the ending was the exact opposite of what I figured was going to happen. The book flipping from past and present really adds to the story, especially once you realize what is actually happening. Great debut from Stone. I just wish it was longer. Based on this short, I would definitely read more of his work.

The Date is the eighth book in the Emerge series from D&T Publishing and Godless. If you haven’t read any of them, you are missing out. Each book is a standalone written by an emerging author and each one has been brilliant! Short reads that pack in some great details. Grab them all!

Dean is so nervous! He is going on a date with Lara Reed, the girl in school rumored to never date because her dad forbids it. However, she had asked him and he is going to her house to meet her family before their first date. He meets the charming mother and the overbearing dad and brother. Things are definitely off to a weird start, but insanity kicks in when Lara’s father next enters the living room. Dean goes running for his life and frantically searches for a way to survive. His only goal is to live through The Date.

This short story is a live wire. It gets going pretty quick with some clever before scenes tucked into the story as it moves forward. The action is intense and brutal. The tension grows as each scene unfolds.

Moral of the story: Don’t f%#* with horror movie addicts. They’ve learned certain things. You should check this one out!
