This was really cute!
The Voting Booth is about a girl named Marva who is passionate about voting. On her first election day ever, she runs into Duke who is over voting. He just wants to get it over with but due to going to the wrong polling location, he can't vote. So Marva takes it on herself to help him get his vote in, all while dealing with her missing cat.
I really liked Marva and I loved how passionate she was about voting and elections. I just read another book about elections / running so I couldn't help comparing them but I think I liked this one more. This book takes place all in one day, except when we have flashbacks and I was... okay with it?? Maybe because I was listening to the audiobook and the audiobook was freakishly short, but I didn't have my normal issue of wanting to scream when books take place over practically 5 minutes.
Weirdly enough I wanted more about the election and voter suppression problems and less of the missing cat that is also a social media star. It just felt like such a random sideplot that was thrown in last minute because the book was too short.
Apparently I don't know how to write reviews anymore but this was fun, important, and I didn't have that many problems with it.

Fun, approachable, and serious
It’s hard to tackle a subject like voting without becoming embroiled in painful conversations. Brandy has a give us a great book that takes real issues to an approachable level. I loved Marva, everything about her passion was so fantastic. And Duke was a good foil for her, it would have been so easy to make him a jerk and he wasn’t. I am glad this book is out there and I plan on sharing it everywhere.

This was super cute! I really liked the writing, it was easy to read and sweet. I related to Marva on a few different levels and liked her relationship development with Duke over the course of their day spent together. This story and messaging is so important for young people on the importance of voting and using your voice, particularly during these election years.

So many of our teens have told us they loved this, and they were right! Brandy Colbert delivers a perfect 24 hour story that brings two powerful voices in Marva and Duke to the table. At the core of the book is passion for change in the world and an emphasis on what matters, as well as a focus on differing experiences. I also like that the romance vibes feel realistic for two strangers who only spend one day together. Definitely pick this up!
