This book was so fun! A little magic, a little mystery, and a little steam made for a fantastically good read! Add in a snarky werewolf trapped in our hero’s head and *chef’s kiss*. I absolutely adored Mateo and Evie, and I can’t wait to dive into the rest of this series!

Romance: 4.5/5
Plot: 2/5
Spicy scale: 3/5

I really enjoyed this book! I can't wait to read the rest of the series, even if we're not staying with Evie and Mateo. The rest of the sisters seem fun and interesting, and we got a glimpse in who their love interests are for some of them, I'm intrigued.

I don't know how they'll top Mateo and Alpha's duo though. I loved Alpha's voice. Best part of the book for me. He sounded like Venom in my head (and imagining Tom Hardy as Mateo wasn't a hardship at all), which made their dialogues even better. And Mateo was a total sweetheart, I swooned several times over him. And he's a metal worker, which was a nice (and hot) touch.

I started out not really liking Evie (I can't with people for who liking Star Wars and Marvel is their whole personality), but she quickly grew on me. She's funny, easy-going and loyal. I also loved her relationship with her sisters. I was sure there would be secrets and hiding (because of the no-werewolves rule), but no, everyone is respectful and supportive, they clearly love each other and want what's best for everyone. Minimal angst, which was very nice.

The romance too is very light on angst, zero even. Lots of pining though, which was fun to read. I love the build up of the romance here, no insta-love (it's no slow burn though, medium-burn I guess ?). Mateo and Evie are a really good match, and are so adorable together, I enjoyed all their scenes.

The plot of Mateo's shifting issues was the only kinda negative thing here. I liked the mystery that was build up throughout the book, but the resolution to this came from nowhere, it didn't work for me. But since 90% of the story is about the characters and their relationships, I don't mind that much.

Some of my favorite Venom Alpha quotes :

"Look! He's standing. He's coming to challenge us. Good. Prepare for combat."

"Poor sweet thing. She wants us. They can't help it, brother. We've got animal magnetism."

"Only we can give her the shivers."

"Kill. Him. Find him and tear him limb from limb."
"Overkill."
"That's the stupidest word in the English language."

And a last one from Evie, which summarizes the romance quite well:

A big, bad werewolf just blew me a kiss. That was the sexiest and cutest thing I'd ever seen.

This was a really fun read! This was a slower burn then I was expecting, but the payoff at the end was totally worth it. And while I did really enjoy reading this one, it felt like I had to slog through a lot of the middle section.

I did really enjoy the relationship between Evie and Mateo. They were just so much fun and I also loved that Evie was a comic and fandom nerd. Which was such a nice change of pace! All in all, I liked this one a lot. But I think my enjoyment of it was over shadowed by all the shitty things happening in the world right now. So. With that said, I’m giving this one a four out of five stars.

Super fun book to read. Funny, sweet, and light-hearted—this is a good book to read for anyone looking an easy read with a cute romance and a few good spicy scenes. There’s a few small issues, mainly the Venom-like wolf voice was hard for me to get used to and some of the choice wording in this book is a little weird, but I still highly recommend.
