I really wanted to like this. It's not that I didn't, I just didn't love it. I thought Killian was a fascinating and complex character. He just wasn't as psycho as I was expecting. He was depicted as a psychopath but really he wasn't. He was just a boy with daddy issues which later get resolved, and dark thoughts which are dampened when he meets Glyndon, the FMC. It's not often I don't like the FMC, but I found Glyndon to be quite tedious. I didn't get Killian's fascination with her.

There was an overuse of some phrases/habits which grated on me...

"I'll stuff you with my cum"
"I'll stuff this c*nt with my cum"
that, or cock. - It got kinda cringey.

Glyndon rubbing her hands on her shorts. - I lost count how many times she did this.

The poetic gothic writing didn't work for me. In fact, the only instance of it was on the cliff. Even then, I didn't twig at the time that that's what it was until I saw GoM listed as gothic romance on Amazon. I had to go back through the book to see why.

"The air frizzles my honey-colored hair that’s streaked with natural blonde balayage and stuffs it in my eyes." Stuffs it in her eyes?? That quote made me chuckle.

I really liked the side characters. Although Remi was annoying. Landon is coming across as potentially more psycho than Killian so I'd love more Landon. Annie and Mia are absolute sweethearts! In fact, Mia was my favourite! I love her sass and style!

I didn't see the Devlin twist coming. I probably should have, but I didn't. And one thing I couldn't understand, once finding out, is how Glyndon thought they were ever best friends! He practically tried to co-erce her into killing herself! He was a master manipulator, a narcissist, and far worse than what Killian was perceived to be. I was so shocked that she mourned him the way she did.

All in all it was ok. I did enjoy some parts. Killian and Landon working together was so funny! I'm interested to see what happens with the other characters.

This book kinda sucked (Killian, you're the fucking worst) but here's an accurate representation of Koisty and I on our way to hell with a jug of aperol spritz, a bag of taralli and our Kindles stuffed with dark romance books, as we continue our quest to find the perfect, most unhinged book the genre has to offer:

jokes (and trigger warnings) aside, i really didn't vibe with this and, aside from that initial (very problematic) first chapter, killian was very weak and whiny for a villanous mmc.
he gave me the ick and was creepy but not in a "dark romance mmc" kind of way. he was just so...dumb, and everything he said made me cringe. he was basically like a broken record who thinks he's sexy but talks like a 15yo who's just discovered he can slide into girls' dms.
glyndon is equally as boring as he is, but for very different reasons that have all to do with her having no personality whatsoever.
i was also thrown off by some minor scenes that made this fictional story sound even more fictional than it actually is. for example, there was a scene where fmc was talking about her art professor not believing in her talent and saying very unprofessional things a professor at an elite school would never say to one of their students. it's just a small thing you could easily overlook, but it didn't make me sympathize with glyndon's character the way it probably was supposed to.
the only thing that prevented me from giving this book 1 star were the sort of decent side characters. i told koisty i'd stay away from rina kent's books but i'm kinda intrigued by nikolai/bran's book so we'll see.

The side characters thrilled me wheras the main ones didn't. it was SO COOL seeing the dynamics and side characters knowing ill see their pov in their own books! i am hoping that there is as much of the side characters in other people's books as there is in this was cos i was literally HERE FOR IT AND LOVE IT and it was every other chapter yayyyyyy. I didn't love him. i didn't really know what to think. look, he has no personality as such parrticulary which is kind of thew point i guess as someone who doesnt experience emotions very much. seeing him with Mia was cute and made me happy. she seems so nice saying to him 'its ok to be different' or something along those lines. she met Landon for the first time yayyyyyyyy. serpents vs elites and heathens war will develop in future books im so here for it. Nikolai is so funny and its so funny how everyone is scared of him. yay the friendship groups are opening to make room for all the couples i am excited. it would be such a COOL universe to live in. everyone and thier mother (and their mother lol) is richhhhh and powerfullll its so fun!!!!!! groupchats were sooooooooooo fun to read and i love them in any book.  also, are Asher and Reina literal king and queen of America??? had no idea and i cannot tell if it is genuine or not cos it was only ever brought up once.  couldn't relate to her. she was mid. some people think she's a pushover and don't like her very much in comparison to other Kings. do i agree? well so far answer is looking like i probs will agree. but onto the next book, yay im so ready! this was INFINITELY better than Steel Princess, that maybe i wouldve enjoyed more with a physical copy. it was cool having a physical copy. i highlighted good lines and notable pointswith red tabs. it's so annoying how you have to buy it whether it's online or not, as in not available in libraries or bookstores i go to actually! . Some chapters were THE BEST THING EVER. can you believe Astrid and Levi got a pov?!!!! aq confusing thing i never grasped was her grandpas. she has Henry and Jonathon but then also an uncle or two but one isn't actually her uncle. idk. i didnt look forward to it but i really enjoued it and wanted to continue to read it once i put it down and when i was reading i didnt want to stop. their smut i just, am not the right audience for. it was kind of repetitive and happened a lot, too much for my liking.
