Maybe a little slow to start as we get all of the background information, but this was a very powerful story about what we choose to do with the talents we are given.

3.5 stars. This took a little while to get into. For some reason, I have a difficult time engaging with Le Guin's books (at least the two I've read now). It was over halfway before this one really grabbed me.

That being said, she definitely is a skilled writer and creates characters and stories that aren't really standard fantasy fare, which is really cool. In the end, I did enjoy this book, and it ends with enough threads tied off to feel complete but also open enough to lead into the sequel. The climax felt rushed, but there is a lot of good here, and I'm not even fully certain what didn't work for me. A fair read all around.
