So I got just over half way before I had to put it down- I am going to classify it as 'read' because of this, but it was such a strange read for me. Most of the time it presented as a research paper on Austen- as well as other authors- and at other times, a memoir of her (in my mind - rather successful) life. I was expecting more of a personal and direct link to how Wilson used the novels to 'remedy' her feelings which, for me, never really eventuated. I had to give up in the end.

I had such high hopes for a memoir written about seeing your life through the works of Jane Austen. I can see the inspiration and effect that Jane Austens writing has had on this authors life, how she draws connections from what she’s read into her everyday reality emotionally.
The issue that I had with this however was it was just so boring. I love Jane Austen but never have I compared myself to Elizabeth Bennett or Jane Fairfax. Yes I have often wondered what it would be like to walk the grounds of Pemberley, tell Willeby to go jump and befriend Fanny Price. But at some stage you need to live in the real world and not in literature. On top of this so many other classic authors books and names got dropped through this that it was messy to read and a bombardment of textbook like content, like I was reading an essay rather than a memoir.

It's just so dry and while I do enjoy Jane Austen, The author just rambles about so many things that really doesn't connect with what the book advertised itself to be
