Great world building, interesting magic system. I really like Katsi and her abilities, and her tenacity and spunk... And just that she is so direct in speaking her mind. She says what she thinks and she means what she says.
Scales was super cute and I can't wait to see how much he grows in book two.
Migo was definitely not your average male main character. Super complicated, vindictive, violent... But you couldn't help but feel for him, with the trauma he'd been through and was going through. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of man he becomes after this.
More violence/gore than I would normally read, but the battle scenes and executions drove the plot and were well written.
The evil Queen was a bit one note, and I would have liked to see a bit more complexity to her character.
Hatan is super lovable and a great supporting character.
Damani was disappointing, especially after such a lengthy friendship with Katsi.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book.
